Dominique Figarella

Dominique Figarella on the opening of his exhibition at La Station.
My use of colour in this drawing has certainly been inspired by the colour of Dominique's shirt, but also by his stunning paintings (which deal with the relation between painting, photography, and reality: Paintings embedding photographies of the process of their making, photographies that mimetically become part of the painting...)

Noël Dolla

This evening, during the opening of the Dominique Figarella's exhibition at La Station in Nice, this is Noël Dolla (mostly known as a member of the movement Support/Surface, but as mentioned in 'about me', he was also my professor at the Villa Arson).

Theleme

A view on the Theleme building in Sophia Antipolis.
It's an interesting architecture and my drawing doesn't really show a lot of it, but after a few discarded drawings (again), this one suddenly seemed to know better than myself what I was looking for...
(Anyone interested in architecture? I just found this link where the building is presented.)

Athena

The Athena building in Sophia Antipolis ... I struggled quite a bit with this view, couldn't get anything satisfying on paper for several days - probably due to the complex geometrical forms being interrupted by the trees, but that's just what is so interesting in this place.
This solution here works fine for me, and I think it's because I rather 'painted' with a long arm, instead of drawing meticulously with the hand directly on the paper as I tried the other days.
I also set the contours of the building only once the large forms were already there, this method often seems to work better than the other way round.

Studying Old Masters, pt. 2

The Epsom Derby, after Théodore Géricault (1821).
I had bought a postcard of this painting a long time ago, I don't remember where exactly but probably it was in the Louvre, where you can see the original today. I've had an undescribable fascination for this painting, and I knew that I was going to use it one day - so here's the result. I really enjoyed doing this drawing.

Je me suis régalé.

Joseph Mouton

Also at La Station this evening, not as a performer but as a spectator, this is Joseph Mouton (writer and professor for aesthetics at the Villa Arson in Nice).

This evening, La Station in Nice hosted a performance evening called "Aux alentours / De la performance" on the occasion of the publication of the first two numbers of the aperiodical bilingual (French/German) journal "(d)écrire - (be)schreiben" (edited by Jean-Baptiste Ganne).
This drawing shows the poet Cécile Mainardi reading some texts by Antonin Artaud.

Studying Old Masters

The Hesperides, after Hans von Marées (1884/85).
Compared to the original, you will notice that something is missing in this drawing: The original is a tripych, but I my drawing only shows the middle panel. You can see the original in the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, where I've bought a postcard of the painting several years ago.
