Hippopo ... (Tasse de café no. 31)

...tamus.

Ah, j'ai failli oublier: La salade était correcte.

After a lukewarm piece of meat and a clumsy and apparently overtired team of 'waiters' - letting us wait was indeed their best qualification (but likable they were, at least), the mediocrity of this coffee could only improve the overall impression.
Well, the salad was not bad...

La Goulette (Tasse de café no. 30)

After little more than one month, we've been eating couscous at La Goulette again yesterday. Sometimes it's good to have pencils and paper with you: So I was able to borrow them to one of the guests - a nice little six-year-old girl, who didn't hesitate to give me the drawing she made on location. I hadn't expected so much thankfulness! Less generous, I've kept my drawing for myself: Shadow of a cup of coffee nr. 30.

A coffee in a beach restaurant, a quarter past four - a little later, and the shadow would have been too large for the my sketchbook.

With this cup of coffee in the hand, I walked around for some time looking for a place in the sunlight to draw the shadow - in vain. So I finally sat down in a shadily place, waiting for the sun to move on just a few degrees - and then I saw that even in the shade, things still have a shadow, more diffuse for sure, but also more ... shadowy?

Eat Me (Shadow of a cup of coffee nr. 26)

To tell the truth, this is the shadow of the saucer of the cup of coffee that I had today in a very gemütlich restauraut in Nice, called "Mangez-moi" (Eat Me), after visiting the Sarah Moon exhibition.

Menton is not only the last city in the south of France before you cross the border to Italy, it also really breathes an Italian flair - especially if you eat pizza at "La Piazzetta".

Lost In Space? No, not this time - it's just a spacy shadow of a cup of coffee in Villefranche at Achill'S!

I finally like this drawing in its 'unfinishedness', so I haven't 'filled' the contour as I usually do.

Jacky's (cup of Coffee nr. 13)

Simplicity (Cup of Coffee nr. 12)

Lorena, I'd like to answer you with this new post rather than in a comment.

Yes, in general I am with other people when I drink a coffee, indeed it's some kind of social act to have a coffee together, similar to a cigarette for those who smoke (I don't).
However, I noticed that sometimes I just want to go somewhere alone to have a coffee in order to make a new drawing, and that was the case for nr. 11.

To play with terms, you may say there's a mini-paradigm shift in the artistic act "to draw the shadow of a cup of coffee": First, I made a drawing in order to make good use of the time spent during a coffee break: Thanks to the coffee, there was a drawing.
Now from time to time it's the other way round: Because I need to draw, I'd go and get a cup of coffee.
Art rules.

You mentioned Exploring the subject matter: Yes, I love series of drawings, I love each single drawing, but in a series, theres a new movement, a new energy emerging.

Often we start with a simple idea, executed with simple means, and after some repetition and improvement we look for complication, variation, brilliance, and then we go a long long road, exploring different ways, and once we've made a long journey we finally find out that we're almost back where we started: In simplicity - but a wiser one: One that knows that there's different ways, but that there's no right or wrong, and that you can as well leave it all behind and concentrate on the essential.

This time I have come back to a simple form, just the shadow of the ensemble "cup and saucer", abandoning the shadow of the cup on the saucer, as well as the place where the object touches the surface - just "the shadow that touched the paper".
